In a scene reminiscent of every law school class ever, three members of the Connecticut State House of Representatives were caught on camera goofing around on their computers during the height of the legislature’s big budget debate yesterday.
In the Associated Press photo, two representatives — Barbara L. Lambert (D-Milford) and John F. Hennessy (D-Bridgeport) — are seen playing solitaire on their respective laptops, while an unidentified third representative is shown viewing ESPN.com on his.
Heh. (Hat tip: Doug Mataconis.)
It reminds me of a couple of photos that I took in Torts class 1L year, versions of which — carefully cropped to protected the innocent guilty — eventually showed up on the old blog:
Ah, Alan Gunn’s class. Those were the days. Just remember: British people are peculiar.
Waw haw haw! 🙂 And I say, good for the Solitaireans & the ESPNist!
“…The Associated Press picture, shot from behind first-term Rep. Barbara L. Lambert, D-Milford and veteran Rep. John F. Hennessy, D-Bridgeport, features House Minority Leader Lawrence F. Cafero Jr. in the right-hand corner, gesticulating his criticism of the Democratic majority’s budget…
“‘You do not have to look at Larry to know exactly what he’s doing with his theatrics,’ Lambert said. ‘Larry wasn’t discussing anything that was new. My mind was made up in our caucuses. I knew what our changes were and what the governor proposed.’ Lambert said she was fully aware of Cafero’s argument.” [Emphases added]
Hee hee. Exactly right. Larry never discusses anything that is New anyway. Full Awareness of his Argument is always easy: Cut spending, Gut the government, and No Damn Taxes. And his Theatrics, albeit sometimes Amusing, must get a little Old as a session careens onward toward the Wee hours. :}
“Just remember: British people are peculiar.”
Well yes but wot was the good perfesser’s Point? Extraordinary talent for Stating the Obvious. ;>
I just saw this story on drudge just before coming here and my thoughts are: Big Deal.
Do Americans really expect their reps to be engaged all day long every day on debates that are already clear to them which side they will be on? I mean it’s not like congress is debating authorizing going to war against a country that never attacked us or posed any threat to us. It’s a stupid debate about the budget. We should know by now that budgets don’t matter.
“It’s a stupid debate about the budget.”
Yeah and not only is the Debate stupid, the Budget is stupid too, Sandy U. ;} However, it probably Approximates the Least Idiotic one that could be cobbled together, under the present Stupid circumstances in my fair Constitution State.
“We should know by now that budgets don’t matter.”
Beg to differ on That one. Agree with you on the rest.
