Drudge foments racial PANIC!!!: “WHITE STUDENT BEATEN ON SCHOOL BUS; CROWD CHEERS.” Question for conservatives: how is this sort of race-baiting (i.e., turning an admittedly awful local story from Missouri into the TOP NATIONAL STORY for no reason other than OMG BLACK PEOPLE BEAT UP WHITE PEOPLE) any different than what Al Sharpton & his ilk do?
given the facts reported so far, it’s not any different. anyone who says that race definitely played a part in the incident either has info that i haven’t seen reported or is making a completely baseless assumption. does that mean that race did NOT play a part? we can’t know at this point, so anyone who says that it definitely didn’t play a part is also being unreasonable.
most liberals, on the other hand, defend Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson when they do these sorts of things… and they’re already starting to defend that “Reverend” down in FL who’s foolishly playing the race card against the Superintendant who made a decision regarding classroom curriculum.
as for whether it should be national news, i don’t think it’s unreasonable to be reporting this story to a national audience. if the audience is interested, then THEY will keep it national news… if the audience is not interested, then it’ll disappear from the headlines. Drudge probably should’ve worded his headline a bit more responsibly, but it certainly isn’t unreasonable to raise the question… not make the assumption… but at least raise the question when a white guy is getting beaten on a bus full of mostly african americans and most of them are cheering rather than trying to break it up. part of the police investigation should certainly try to determine whether race was a factor.
one absolute expectation here is that the bus driver should be fired.
