Boise State is young, and next year, they host Oregon St and play VaTech on a neutral field. If they don’t reach the title game this year…

They have only four seniors right now, which is a bit crazy and I believe it’s the lowest amount in all of D1 by a wide margin. They lose their star corner/returner who may be difficult to replace, but other than that they should be loaded next year. The stars are definitely lining up for them if they’re able to take advantage of it.

If BYU wins out, they make it. The win against the ducks is looking ever stronger, and pollsters are being surprisingly fair so far.

I assume you mean BSU, not BYU. In any event, I’d like to agree, but I do not think Boise will ultimately stay ahead of a one-loss SEC champ, Big 12 champ, USC or Virginia Tech. If they’re competing for the final spot with a one-loss Big Ten champ, Big East champ, ACC champ not named Virginia Tech, or Pac-10 champ not named USC, then maybe. If they’re competing for the final spot with a one-loss Oregon team, they should obviously be in. If they’re competing for the final spot with a two-loss team, from any conference, then they’ve got a great shot. But I think their schedule, outside of the Oregon win, is just too weak this year for them to be that “breakthrough” team under other circumstances. It’s a shame BYU had to fall asleep against Florida State — they would be in GREAT shape now, if they were still undefeated.
Also, let’s not forget, Texas and the SEC trio (Florida, Alabama, LSU) aren’t the only undefeated BCS teams. It’s actually an SEC quartet — Auburn is undefeated, too — and there’s also Iowa, Michigan and Wisconsin from the Big Ten; Kansas, Missouri and Texas A&M from the Big 12; Cincinnati and South Florida from the Big East; and (ugh) UCLA from the Pac-10. I realize several of those teams are very likely garbage, having gotten to this point purely by beating cupcakes, but nevertheless, they are undefeated at the moment, and if they can stay that way, they will certainly leapfrog Boise State eventually.
And let’s not forget Houston and TCU, either. If those teams win out, they’ve got a great case to leapfrog Boise as well. Though I doubt either one will win out, especially TCU.
