Marty West, frequent blog commenter and die-hard Iowa fan, had more than just a Hawkeyes invite to the Orange Bowl to celebrate this weekend. Thanks to a win by Washington and a near-win by Nebraska, West edged out Phillip Price to capture the championship of the first annual Living Room Times College Football Pick ’em Contest by one point, 153-152.
Price, a 2007 Notre Dame Law School alum, led West by a point heading into Saturday evening’s games. But Price had picked Cal and Texas to cover against Washington (+7) and Nebraska (+14.5), respectively, whereas West picked the underdog Huskies and Huskers to beat the spread. In fact, Texas won by just 1 point, and Cal lost by 32 in a shocker. As a result, Price got both games wrong, and lost his lead. West got both right, and won the contest with a prediction record of 153-105 (.593).
Up next, of course, is the Living Room Times Bowl Pick ’em Contest. I’ll try to get that set up sometime this week. The first bowl game is December 19, twelve days away.
UPDATE: The Bowl Pick ’em Contest is online.

Thank you, thank you. I’d like to thank the academy. I think I might take donations and invest in a Bodog account…just look at that percentage!
Go Hawks! Beat Yellow Jackets!
Go Temple! Beat UCLA or Golden Knights!
Go Texas!
Go Penn State!
Go Chaos!
Iowa State’s going to Tempe (aka “Not Shreveport”) – that’s good.
My aunt lives in Phoenix and has already invited the family – that’s better.
It will take an act of God (or at least a benevolent editor) to allow changes in my work schedule – that’s bad.
If I can’t go, I will be spending Christmas alone for the first time in my life – that’s horrible.
As you may see, I have many conflicting emotions right now.
