That would draw unwanted attention to their 2005 USC “best team ever!!!1!!” flop.
That USC team was the best team ever. Their entire defense was injured working with strictly back-ups in the last part of the season. Even with their 4th string cornerbacks, USC was on their way to blowing out Texas (not just beating them) when Reggie Bush showboated that lateral that completely changed the complexion of the game. All in all, it still took Vince Young to play the game of his life, malfunctioning replay equipment, 4 Texas fumbles that bounced right to Texas players, and they still only took the lead with 19 seconds left in the game on 4th and goal.
