Cranks like me complain about the lack of experience and gravitas of our last three Presidents. Worth noting that a statesman like Haig dies, he of the long and distinguished career, and all eulogies start with a single statement that wasn’t even technically incorrect, but rather a poor choice of words.
The way Haig is remembered may be related somehow to the low quality and experience-level of our recent Presidents.

Give Haig credit where credit is due … he gave the US a significant Civics lesson … prior to his ‘inartful phrasing’, a lot fewer folk actually realised that Secretary of State is 5th in line for the Presidency ! (grin)
