My wife and I had the experience of an unexpected visit from the local police. We had just moved from California to our Maine B&B and I couldn’t figure out how the phone was working so I apparently ended up pushing some button on the phone that corresponded to a programmed 911 call. Not realizing I had done that a few minutes later (at about 11pm) we heard a knock on the door…from the police wondering if everything was okay. They also wanted to come in and look over things to be sure we were not under duress or anything. At least it was a “good” way to meet a couple of the local cops but a rather embarrasing way to finish our first night in our new home/business……
