RT @fivethirtyeight: 59% of tea-party identifiers have a favorable view of Glenn Beck; 7% of all others do.

And what proportion of the population-as-a-whole are “tea-party identifiers” ?
I used to think that 538 was a reasonable site – but, over the past while, it has become more and more a shrill shill for the Democrats … Nate’s statistics used to be based upon valid statistics – more and more, you see things like the one you quoted, so out of context as to be meaningless …
For all we know, the statistic you quoted may have been based upon a possible reality wherein the tea-party identifiers also watch Glenn Beck whereas the “all others” don’t watch him … you are much more likely to have a favourable view of Glenn Beck if you have actually watched him and listened to him … if, on the other hand, you accept your opinions of Glenn Beck pre-digested by DailyKos or DU, 7% seems like a high number …

I love how Alasdair decides he doesn’t like 538 because it shows time and again how out of touch he is with reality.

David K – I realise that it can be a challenge to you, when things are written in grammatically correct English … please persevere, though, and, with practice, you will understand better what adults are saying …
Back when I had Statistics as one of my classes at University, the Professor showed how, statistically, if one was part of a household that owned a Hoover vacuum cleaner in the UK, one was significantly more likely to be injured in a car accident … the statistical correlation was clear and verifiable …
The context which explained this seemingly unlikely statistic was simple … if you were sufficiently prosperous as to be able to oown a Hoover vacuum cleaner, you were statistically more likely to be able to offord to own a car … and, as is reasonably inuitive, one is more likely to be in a car accident if one owns a car …
Correlation is NOT causation …
I believe that 538 *used* to remember that … they just don’t seem to, nearly as much, any more …

I didn’t see myself or silver assuming that correlation = causation. He pointed out an interesting datapoint is all. Me think thou doth protest too much.
As for Beck, the man is a hate filled fear monger who uses lies, Half-truths, hyperbole, and other methods to incite and inflame his viewers. He is a hypocrite and is a prime example of what is wrong with the GOP today.
It’s no surprise to anyone with an ounce of sense that a movement like the tea party, based as it is on extreme views and disinformation, is filled with people who idolize a man like Beck who is clearly more concerned with fueling ideological fervor than facts and honest reasonable discourse over complex issues.
