We’ve got the Canon Vixia HF10 – High def with a build in flash memory (I think 16 gb) plus the ability to read/write to flash memory. Good zoom, seems to have good lens properties. Was under $500 a year ago, plus does still images at >3megapixels. It records to AVCHD format though, which is a bit clunky to downgrade to .wav or whatever you prefer, but once figured out is not too much of an annoyance. I like it so far.
