So does this mean we’d take Texas Tech over Utah? I need to see the case made for that — I absolutely prefer Utah at this point, so I need to know what facts and data I am overlooking.
I’d be glad to take Texas Tech if it opens the door to Texas recruiting and media markets, but I don’t see how a mediocre school in wayward Lubbock would have any influence on the El Paso, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Houston, San Antonio, or Austin media markets or recruiting. If I’m wrong, then great. Otherwise, the only play for Texas Tech here is to weaken the new Big 12 and open the door for Missouri and Texas A&M to reconsider staying, and cause the new conference set-up to implode again. But I just have my doubts Texas Tech is a big enough domino to cause that to happen.
What I would support is picking up Utah and Texas Tech, but then the question becomes, does it stop at 13 or should the Pac-10 pick off one more and make it an even 14? But then if you do that, who do you go after if you’re saving those last three slots for OU, OSU, and Texas?
Its not going to happen…but to further speculate…..If Tech really refused to join then the Big-12 would presumably die. The question still remains what would happen. What I’d like to see is the Pac-10 take Utah, Tech, OU, OSU and Kansas. A&M then goes to the SEC and Texas becomes an independent….which is essentially what it wants anyway. Not going to happen though.
