I was listening to “Proud to Be An American” on my Patriotic Music playlist today, and when it ended, I found myself subconsciously expecting to hear the “Notre Dame Victory March” next. For about 10 seconds, I was mystified by this impulse; I couldn’t recall or fathom its origin. Then I remembered: Duh! The Backer!
For the uninitiated, the closing-time playlist at the Linebacker Lounge every night, and I mean EVERY SINGLE NIGHT, is:
2:55 AM: “Proud to Be An American,” by Lee Greenwood
2:58 AM: “Notre Dame Victory March,” by the ND Band
[lights come up]
3:00 AM: “December 1963 (Oh What A Night),” by The Four Seasons
Times are approximate; song list is exact.
Unofficially known as the “Air Force National Anthem.” It’s impossible to hang around three or more AF officers and not hear that song sooner or later.
Pedantic correction: The song’s title is “God Bless the USA.”
