Hardly, the bulk fo the spending is going to fund the money making sports (football/basketball/sometimes baseball). I’d wager that the schools that lose money on athletics wouldn’t be in the red if they cut all the non-revenue sports. Plus it ignores the benefits that increased sports exposure and success generate that don’t show up in the athletic revenue stream such as general University donations and increased applications for admission (ala Gonzaga back about 10 years ago).
