Depending on how Pac-12 re-allignment shakes out, Brendan may or may not get his wish to have USC visit Colorado every other year, but he may get what must certainly be his next wish, the chance to see the University of Idaho basketball team in Denver every season!
As part of its plans to stay afloat, the WAC is pursuing expansion options, and is apparently interested in non-football playing schools to help bolster its soon-to-be depleted ranks, with the University of Denver being candidate number one. Currently a non-football member of the Sun Belt conference, Denver officials will be presenting their case to WAC officials next Tuesday in Dallas.
But wait! There’s more! 1-AA schools Texas State, Montana, and Texas-San Antonio are also slated to be at the meeting. Montana has been a perennial contender for the 1-AA title, reaching the finals for a record-setting 17 seasons in a row, during which time they won two national championships. UT-San Antonio will begin playing football in 2011 under former Miami coach Larry Coker, and adding the Texas schools would help far-flung WAC member Louisiana Tech both in recruiting and travel. The WAC may survive after all, although without three of its top performers (including headliner Boise State) it will take a reputation hit.
Heh. YAAAAAAAAAAAAY!
