I can understand the Tea Party and Republicans in general needing to distance themselves from Bush somewhat to enhance their chances (even though Obama ultimately began to garner higher negatives than Bush in many areas), but ditching the smart election tactics and infrastructure of the Rove era was downright foolish. Granted, we lacked a lot of cash going into the summer, but the union goons turning out the Dem base is a given, and if you don’t fund an equal effort on the GOP side, you’re automatically pissing away 2-5% of the vote.
