So if Boise State goes over to the Mountain West Conference, and the orphaned Big 12 schools then join, do they change the name to the Mountain and Prairie Conference?

At which point, the Pac-10 changes its name to the Oceans White With Foam Conference, and the Big Ten becomes the God Bless America Conference (because we all know the Midwest is the home of “real America”), and the SEC becomes the My Home Sweet Home [Alabama] Conference.
I know you were trying to be funny, but I don’t see the correlation. The Pac-10 conference and the Big [Eleven] conference will both have to change names if they expand according to rumor, but the SEC theoretically would not have to change its name. I will concede that Home Sweet Home Conference is a good name for the SEC, since those teams rarely play OOC away games (witness Auburn this year).
Quick self-correction: I don’t think the Pac-10 will want to become the Pac-16, so I would expect a name change as a nod to Texas, Colorado, and Arizona (country songs aside) not being Pacific-bordering states. However the Big Ten may very well elect to call itself the Big-16.
