“USC, which isn’t BCS championship good right now, will miss out on going to a few midlevel bowl games, Lane Kiffin and his terrific coaching staff will get a two-year grace period and will recruit their tails off, hitting it out of the park on 9 of every 10 recruits they get, and USC will be really, really good again in 2012.” http://bit.ly/aG7dbx

Or, you keep Kiffin during the lean years, and then fire him when the suspension is over – thus, getting rid of all taint from this whole thing.

There’s discussion on Twitter of Carroll being USC’s Dennis Franchione, and Kiffin being its Mike Shula, thus leading to the question: Who will be USC’s Nick Saban? To which some have suggested: Nick Saban. Heh.

I think we can realize how sleazy Alabama was that Nick Saban is not only the savior, but he looks really good compared to the last several coaches!

I think it’s rather convenient to dismiss USC’s chances this year based on last year’s follies. The offense this year ought to be on par with the 2004 or 2007 offenses, where we had a returning QB starter, solid skill players, and a great OL. On defense, we will have an outstanding DL, with some question marks due to newcomers in the secondary and lack of depth at LB. That said, I think our defense ought to be better than in 2005 — maybe more like 2006 or 2007 if not 2008 quality.

Still, take the 2004 USC offense and the 2005 USC defense, and we’re not quite world-beaters, but we definitely are right there for the Pac-10 title.

I also predict we’re going to see a huge leap forward this year in production out of special teams. ST play was always subpar under Pete Carroll.

USC will probably contend for the national championship in 2010. They are almost a lock to win the conference. I don’t see any team on their schedule that will give them problems other than maybe Oregon St., again.

Wait, Sandy, have you been paying attention. USC is not going to be ABLE to contend for the national championship. They won’t be eligible. They could go undefeated, and wouldn’t be allowed to play in the BCS title game!
