Texas A&M has the opportunity to force Texas’s hand AND deep six any chance they might have to create a Longhorn Network while simultaneously gaining the SEC chip when it comes to recruiting. If you are an Aggie how can you NOT want to screw the Longhorns three ways? Do you really like playing second fiddle to UT in the Big 12 for the forseeable future? Comeon Aggies, go to the SEC!

There’s been some talk that, if all the other Texas schools are staying put, the Texas legislature may not LET the Aggies leave.
That would appear to well illustrate the truth behind that famous rhetorical question and answer: “What’s the opposite of progress? Congress.” Eff the politicians.

Wow, sucks to be the Aggies, forever screwed by the Longhorns. Guess, like Andrew said elsewhere, Missouri and the Big Ten are our only hope now.
Your only hope for what? Blowing up a perfectly decent system? Not quite sure what you are getting at here, David.
Still, I can’t believe that, only days after looking like the Big 12 was on the verge of failure, its the Pac-10 left with egg on its face. Colorado is fine . . . but it isn’t the money maker that Texas, or even Oklahoma is!
Also, so far, the Conference Formerly Known as the Big Ten can claim victory.

Hope for what? Hope for the Pac-16. I was thrilled with the idea. I think it would have been fantastic for the conference from a money standpoint, from a games standpoint, from an exposure standpoint, I can’t think of any downside for the Pac-16.
I also fail to see how the Pac-10 has egg on its face. They got one member they have been eyeing for awhile and put themselves in a position to take advantage of the eventual collapse of the Big 12. I’d be very surprised if this new arrangement lasts long. All it takes is a Big Ten invite for Missouri (or maybe ACC?), Kansas getting jumpy over the weak position it was in before, A&M getting fed up and moving to the SEC, or the teams to get sick of Texas’ owning them on and off the field. Its a house of cards.
Also, are the Big 12 and Big Ten going to just sign a deal to swap names in a year?

I would imagine that the Big Ten will want to keep its name, because it’s such a well-established brand. I wouldn’t be shocked, though, if the Big 12 — which is NOT such a well-established brand, having come together only fairly recently from the Big 8 and Southwest Conference — changes its name to something else entirely, in order to avoid further confusion/mockery.
