I completely disagree. Tell me which player deserves to be on the cover? We don’t have a potential Heisman favorite, and there’s no huge star like Taylor Mays. You have a complete overhaul of the coaching staff and you want to pretend like that’s not the major story for the football program by sticking someone like Allen Bradford or Ronald Johnson on the cover instead of Lane Kiffin? Um, no.

And grounding Kiffin? I’m sorry — is he a little kid that needs to be sent to his room? What has Kiffin done wrong other than tweak a few noses in Tennessee? If he needs to be “grounded” because of minor violations he committed as Tennessee’s coach, then why did you hire him in the first place? If you think he’s got a big ego — point me to where he’s shown himself to be a pompous ass since he came on board as head coach.

If anything, this is a great cover for Kiffin and the program: Juxtapose the history, tradition, and success of the USC program (“11 national championships, 31 bowl victories, 7 Heisman Trophy winners, 156 All-American First Teamers, 437 NFL players”) with the incoming, brash new coach as if to say, “Here’s what you have to live up to, bud. You’ve talked the talk; now it’s time to walk the walk!” The expectations are set.

The only “Epic fail” here are those critics who want to throw Kiffin under the bus before he’s even coached a game at USC.

I think he means “grounded” as in “humble,” not as in “sent to his room.”

E.g.: “If you think he’s got a big ego — point me to where he’s shown himself to be a pompous ass since he came on board as head coach.”

Lane Kiffin is the most talked about person in all of college football so far in 2010, and the new head coach of USC. How can they not put him on the cover. The only other possible appropriate cover would be Kif, Orgeron, and Monte. Barkley was last year and next year, but Kiffin is definitely been the story and will be the story This Year.
