Hmm, why not just do some team swapping to try and save both leagues (plus a small amount of team stealing fro C-USA)

    Mountain West:
    TCU
    UNLV
    Air Force
    Wyoming
    Colordao State
    Boise State (from WAC)
    Fresno State (from WAC)
    Nevada (from WAC)
    Houston (from C-USA)
    SMU (from C-USA)

    WAC
    Idaho
    Hawaii
    Utah State
    San Jose State
    New Mexico State
UTEP (from C-USA for L. Tech)
    San Diego State (from MW)
    New Mexico (from MW)
    Texas- San Antonio (from Southland)
Texas State (from Southland) and/or Montana (from Big Sky)

    C-USA
    Central Florida
    East Carolina
    Marshall
    UAB
    Memphis
    So Miss.
    Tulane
    Tulsa
    Rice
    L. Tech (from WAC)

The WAC can’t do that, David, because then it would only have 5 teams that have been together for at least 5 years, which means it’s not a recognized conference per NCAA rules, and can’t get things like an auto bid to the NCAA Tournament. Perhaps they could apply for a waiver, but absent that, the much-rumored LaTech/UTEP swap simply can’t happen, from the WAC’s perspective.

I can’t imagine the NCAA not giving them a waiver, and if it won’t they just keep Louisiana Tech.
