I heard the storm is expected to make landfall in Newington, CT, as a powerful Category 5 hurricane.

This would be a first for the sleepy hamlet of Newington, as it is landlocked 🙂

Let me be the first to say this:

If you live in NYC, it is time to get the hell out of dodge, now.

Also, there might be a hurricane headed towards you.

I’ve been paying shockingly little attention to this storm because I’m really busy and because of my eye, but suffice it to say, the NYC nightmare scenario is quite unlikely with Earl — the trajectory is all wrong. Worst-case scenario here is probably a Hurricane Gloria redux, but that still keeps the deadly right-front quadrant safely away from New York Harbor. The killer NYC hurricane is a 500-year hurricane, the rare storm approaching on a NNW or NW trajectory and slamming into North Jersey, bringing the right-front quadrant of the eyewall into Manhattan. That, indeed, would be very, very bad. But none of the computer models are predicting that with Earl, and I don’t see any likelihood of it happening.

    That said: LOL, Casey!
