Yeah, how’d that not tackling in camp thing work out for you eh coach? Good thing this was only Hawaii and not a team with a defense that could have held USC in check as well. USC should be glad they aren’t playing Stanford or Washington next week. Better defenses and great offenses.

True, but it would be better if USC doesn’t play Stanford or Washington this season. They’ll improve, and their schedule is made for a young team to learn, with Virginia and Minnesota coming up next. Although the Washington St. to Stanford part is a real doozy.

Well we succeeded in limiting injuries, but yeah, the lack of tackling in camp really backfired. That was Monte’s idea, and you could tell Lane was pissed at how it turned out. I expect this week’s practices to be brutal.

How is Wazzu part of the “real doozy” portion of the schedule?!? I’d say the schedule is indeed “made for a young team to learn” what with the first three opponents, Virginia, Minnesota and Wazzu. After that, it gets hard. There are absolutely no gimmes in the final 8 games, except maybe UCLA at the end; I don’t have a handle on whether the Bruins will be good this year. Otherwise, though… vs. Washington, at Stanford, vs. Cal, vs. Oregon, vs. ASU, at Arizona, at Oregon State, vs. Notre Dame… they could lose any of those games, or a bunch of ’em. I think the ASU game is one to be careful of, since it’s tempting to view that as a relatively “easy” home game in between the Huskies-Trees-Hippies-Ducks quartet and the Wildcats-Beavers road trip, so it could simultaneously be a “letdown” game and a “look-ahead” game. And ASU is the only Pac-10 team that hasn’t beaten them since 2002 (indeed since 1999), so they’re “due” — not that that means anything, but UW and Arizona were “due” last year, and…

Rule #1: Never underestimate the Bruins. Their football program exists for the sole purpose of winning 1 game per year. They haven’t been to the Rose Bowl since cable television was invented, but if they beat USC, their season is a success. Just ask one of them, they’re proud of it.

To be clear, in my previous post, “the doozy” is playing Stanford after Wazzu and the other 3 softies. Wazzu being the softest of the softies, it’ll be a big step up, or drop-off, as it were, if you will.

I dunno Sandy, based on their game yesterday I’m not sure Minnesotta is really that much better than the Cougs.
