    I wonder if its security related, i.e. to prevent people from funneling money to a single individual who might otherwise show up as raising red flags by buying tickets directly.

    You book a large trip with lots of people,c ancel it and then apply the funds to a couple single tickets for an individual in more questionable circumstances?

    I dunno if there is anything that might back that up, its just the first thought that came to my mind.

    You still have to give the name of the passenger who is flying, though, so I don’t see what difference it would make, security-wise.
