In case you missed it Friday night, here are Conan O’Brien’s closing remarks on his final Tonight Show:
They then concluded the show with in an entirely wacky and bizarre (and therefore appropriate?) fashion, with Will Ferrell singing “Free Bird” — and repeatedly making out with his real-life pregnant wife — and Conan playing backup guitar.

P.S. Conan’s ratings on Friday, incidentally, were through the roof.
Why did he have Will Ferrell and some terrible guitar players doing that final song? For one thing, he’s got Neil frickin Young as a musical guest, why would he not have Neil play him out with “Keep on rockin in the freeworld”!?!?!? Yes, “Freebird” was a good choice, but I’m sure CoCo could’ve got Lynird Skynird to do it instead of Will Ferrell and that guy from ZZ Top.
He still didn’t beat Leno’s final episode rating of 8.8 last year.
Will Ferrell is just not that funny very often. He’s just kinda bizzare. I really hope I’m not the only one who finds him a poor comedian most of the time.
Most of Lynyrd Skynyrd have either left the band or are dead.
Those terrible guitar players of which you spoke included, yeah, “that guy from ZZ Top,” but also Ben Harper and Beck.
Also, now that I think about it, you know who was the last guest on Leno’s last “Tonight Show”?

I do agree with Mike that your characterization of terrible guitar players seem a little off.
That guy from ZZ Top is suppose to be great (based only on what I’ve heard from ZZ Top the past 35 years). Beck…. I like “Loser”, but not because of the Guitar playing. Ben Harper– does he have anything to do with Bens Fold Five?
Anyone that has ever heard the guitar solo for “Freebird” and heard that mess on CoCo’s finale would agree, they really F’ed it up. And to make the ‘joke’ work Conan should’ve had guitar players they don’t just play on the radio. If you think Conan couldn’t resurect members of Lynyrd Skynyrd how do you explain that ZZ Top guy? He’s been dead for years, I admit he looks like he’s only been dead months, Coco must have a good make-up guy.
I’m guessing the one responsible for the bad guitar playing was Conan. Just a hunch that he was the least awesome guitarist on that stage at that moment.
