Continuing on the theme of photos from my parents’ visit to Denver (which has been great fun!), here are some from our lunch date Tuesday at Katie Mullen’s, a neat Irish restaurant and pub downtown that opened in February. I love this shot of my Dad, wearing his classic skeptical-Joe-Loy face: Here’s my Mom taking a picture of him, with… Read more »
Fans leave Coors Field last night after the Dodgers’ 6-1 win over the Rockies ended Colorado’s four-game winning streak: I took the photo from Fadó Irish Pub, where I was watching Brian Clancy (here’s a photo) with my Mom, my Dad, Kristy and her boyfriend, and maybe a hundred of our closest Rockies-fan friends, who dropped in on their way… Read more »
In keeping with my post last weekend showing off a few photos of fruits and flowers, here are some of my shots from our visit to the Denver Botanical Gardens today: And here’s one from a few days ago — a tomato from our garden.
From a walk around our neighborhood yesterday: And from the Farmer’s Market this morning: The peaches and tomatoes look yummy, don’t they? Mmm… fresh food.
The Santa Barbarians were in town this weekend — i.e., Loyette and Loyacita’s uncle, aunt and 3 1/2-year-old cousin — and we took the opportunity to go on a bunch of adventures, including a hike in Boulder on Saturday. We missed the trail we originally intended to take, and ended up hiking an invented loop trail combining portions of the… Read more »
As I mentioned previously, I’m in Steamboat Springs this weekend. You may have noticed that I have a new masthead banner, with a photo from my trip. Here are some more pictures: I particularly like that last one — an armed armadillo inside a tourist kitsch shop in downtown Steamboat. Heh. Lastly, here’s a vertical panoramic shot (made by stitching… Read more »
Here’s a photo I took yesterday of crepuscular rays over Denver, shortly before sunrise: And, later in the day, a pair of video screen-grabs (a split second apart) of a single lightning bolt striking two spots south of downtown: It has been an exceptionally stormy summer so far in Denver, for which I blame El Niño, global warming, Canada, and… Read more »
Tonight’s directly-overhead flyover by the International Space Station was as spectacular as promised. That thing is really bright now! Unfortunately, my efforts to photograph it were somewhat less spectacular. My SLR’s shutter problem has now evolved into a focus problem — it can fill the frame again, but autofocus is completely busted — and my hasty efforts at manually focusing… Read more »
Earlier today, as I pondered the “All the Nose” debate — and the subsidiary question of what to do with all that white space in the blog masthead if I eliminate the subtitle — I had a brainstorm. What if I use one of my panoramic pictures, or better yet, a rotating series of them, as a photographic backdrop for… Read more »
The Boston Globe‘s always exceptional photoblog, The Big Picture, has a typically fantastic post about the Iranian uprising, titled “A troubled week in Iran,” featuring great photo after great photo of the turmoil, all 990 pixels wide. This follows on the heels of three previous posts with photos of the election and subsequent protests. Lots of great stuff. Definitely worth… Read more »
