@AndyGlockner: Truly amazing that no one on ESPN, doing the game or at the desk or in studio, has mentioned that the issue was Dyer’s wrist, not his knee.

@ethanrothstein: It’s funny that Musberger said “This is for all the Tostitos,” because my mom screamed the same thing as she was giving the birth to me

@Pres_Bartlet: So, is the ability to name a national champion of college football under the powers of President of the United States? If so, congrats, TCU.

Marshawn Lynch – Invincible
In case you missed it, the Seattle Seahawks improved to 8-9 (the first NFL team ever to even have that record) and advanced to the second round of the playoffs after upsetting the defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints in Seattle on Saturday. The win was highlighted by an incredible 67 yard run by Seahawks Running back (and former Cal Bear) Marshawn Lynch. Check it out below, it was unbelievable.
DU 4-0 in SBC, hosts 3-0 FIU Saturday
At the beginning of the season, Denver’s goal was to win a conference championship. Less than a month ago, the Pioneers were 2-9, and that goal looked very distant indeed. But six wins later — including four conference wins, two of them on the road, most recently Saturday’s 66-57 escape at Louisiana-Monroe — DU’s original goal is suddenly there for the taking.
Denver is 4-0 in Sun Belt play, which places them alone atop the West Division, and tied with East Division co-leaders Florida Atlantic (4-0) and Florida International (3-0) as the only undefeated teams in the conference. And, as luck would have it, Denver’s only meetings of the season with each of the two Florida schools are both at Magness Arena — the first of them, against Isiah Thomas-coached Florida International, this coming Saturday at 4:30 PM.
Atrocity in Arizona
I haven’t blogged about this morning’s awful shooting at a “Congress on Your Corner” event in Tucson, in which a gunman of unknown motive and mental state attacked American democracy, critically injured a congresswoman, killed a federal judge, and killed or injured various others. But I’ve been tweeting up a storm about it, as you can see over on the LRT Live page. And I suspect Becky and I may discuss it on our next podcast, which, hint hint, we’ll be starting up again very soon after a long hiatus.
Anyway, I just wanted to post a thread here so folks can comment on the tragedy if they wish. R.I.P. to the victims, prayers for them and their families, and God help us all.
It’s Freeze vs. Styles in Pick ’em Contest
LSU’s win over Texas A&M in the Cotton Bowl eliminated David K. and left Jeff Freeze as the last Oregon-picking contestant standing, heading for a final faceoff with Auburn-picking Randy Styles in the 6th annual Living Room Times Bowl Pick ’em Contest.
Freeze and Styles are both a perfect 10-0 in the New Year, having gotten every game right since the last New Year’s Eve contest, the Chick-fil-A Bowl. When the ball dropped in Times Square at midnight on January 1, Styles’s prediction record was 12-10, and Freeze’s was 11-11. But neither has gotten a game wrong since.
Someone will be wrong on Monday, though. Freeze picked Oregon; Styles picked Auburn. Whoever is right will win the contest.
