iOS4 folders: function over form?
So, I installed the newly released iOS4 on my 2G iPod touch last night, and spent way too much time playing with it. Having done so, I have a couple of thoughts. First, wow, it’s fast and smooth and awesome. Second, I love the concept of folders, and I’m really glad to have my ridiculous multitude of apps organized at… Read more »
11 years ago today…
…I graduated from Newington High School. (Above: I blow a kiss to my classmates after walking across the stage.Below: I pose with my friend Marel after the ceremony.) Eleven years. Man. That’s kind of a long time, huh? Wow. (This also means tomorrow, June 23, is the 11th anniversary of the final print edition of The Living Room Times —… Read more »
Oil leaking from seabed; PANIC?!?
I can’t vouch for the accuracy of this blog post, but if it’s true, uh, PANIC?!?!?!?! [This video shows] oil oozing — and then gushing — out of the sea floor itself. There has been speculation that the rapid outflow of oil from the underground reservoir is setting things up for a sinkhole. If that happens, it is almost certain… Read more »
What’s more annoying than a vuvuzela?
NPR’s Wait Wait, Don’t Tell Me! has the answer. Fast forward to 5:50 in the clip below, then “wait wait” for the punch line at around the 7:10 mark. Heh. I’m not always a huge fan of Wait Wait, but that one made me laugh out loud in my car yesterday. UPDATE: And, speaking of vuvuzelas, here’s the trailer for… Read more »
Heckuva job, Barry?
Although I don’t find much value in his overarching thesis that Barack Obama is just like Vladimir Putin, except less effective at being a thug, Michael Barone makes some concerning points about the oil spill response. I’d love to hear convincing rebuttals, if they exist. Barone: Obama’s decision to impose a six-month moratorium on deepwater oil drilling in the Gulf…penalizes… Read more »
The end of an era: retiring the belt pack?
Becky made an excellent point yesterday. When I get my new iPhone 4 next week*, it’ll be the first time I’ve ever owned a cell phone with a decent camera. (My 2006 vintage Sprint flip phone takes grainy 640x480s — a marked improvement over my previous, 2003 vintage Sprint flip phone, which took 384x256s.) And, by all accounts, the iPhone’s… Read more »
World Cup scenario update
After the surprising 0-0 tie between England and Algeria, which was literally the best possible result for the Americans after this morning’s amazing comeback/referee screwjob against Slovenia, here’s where things stand, I think, in terms of the USA’s hopes of qualifying for the next round of the World Cup. Someone correct me if I’m wrong: * If we beat Algeria,… Read more »
The soft bias of high expectations?
On Twitter yesterday, Melissa Clouthier and I had another one of our epic back-and-forth tweet-debates, complete with multi-part tweets (mostly by me) and rhetorical fireworks. Melissa is on record as calling me her “blog husband,” so is it any wonder we bicker on Twitter like an old married couple? Heh. Anyway, this time, the topic was “unexpectedly” bad economic news… Read more »
